VALUE WINE –CUVEE ROY TAVEL ROSE 2016

Tavel, France 45% Grenache, 40% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre

Produced by Cave des Vignerons, a large co-op consisting of 140 producers and which makes 50% of all wines made in the Tavel AOC. Typical of Tavels, this is a bold extroverted style with a mixture of cherry and red currant flavors streaming forth, backed by enough acidity to race through the finish. It has enough stuffing to stand up to salmon and even beef or lamb as well as hard cheeses. 88 points Wine Spectator.

ECO WINE –  LES HAUTS DE LEGARDE

Bordeaux, France 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Mouvedre

The Raymond Vineyard has been producing grapes for 8 generations. Grapes are organically grown with sustainable and biodynamic methods and are handpicked. Attractive structured tannins and red fruits give this wine a good start in life. With the acidity, the dusty structure and the perfumed finish, the wine will continue to develop and improve although it is very approachable now. Pair with roasts and braised meats. 87 points Wine Enthusiast.

WHITE WINE –I VERONI VERMENTINO 2017

Chianti Ruffina, Tuscany, Italy 100% Vermentino

Fattoria I Veroni was founded in 1895 but the original buildings on the estate date back to the 12th century. Currently, about 30 hectares are planted to olive trees and 20 are under vine. Oustanding wines are produced here. The Vementino ferments on the lees for 18 days and is then aged in stainless steel for 5 months. There is a vibrant nose of yellow flowers and herbs as well as a bit of citrus. The palate is smooth and silky with lots of minerality and a full elegant acidity.

RED WINE –I VERONI TOSCANA ROSSO 2015

Chiant Ruffina 60% Sangiovese, 40 % Merlot

One of several high-quality red wines from the small estate of Fattoria I Veroni in Chianti Ruffino, a mere 10 miles from Florence. With only 20 hectare under vine, the grapes can be meticulously cared for and harvested. The Rosso is aged for 4 to 6 months in French oak. The intense persistent nose is full of ripe and dried red fruits. There is a great balance between, tannic support, acidity, earthiness and red fruit on the palate. Excellent with red meat, game and pasta with red sauces;

NEW WORLD WINE  –ST CLAIR FAMILY SAUVIGNON BLANC 2017

Marlborough, New Zealand 100% Sauvignon Blanc

This winery’s first release was in 1994, but it has rapidly gaining a reputation for making brilliant wines. The Fruit for this wine comes from the lower Wairau sub region, which is regarded as the best in Marlborough, producing wines of heightened expression. On the nose there are tropical notes of passion fruit, guava and black currant combined with subtle chalky notes. There is a rich full palate of tropical flavors, especially passion fruit and guava leading to a long mineral finish.

OLD WORLD WINE –CHATEAU CHEVAL BRUN ST EMILLION 2015

Bordeaux, France 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc

Bordeaux, France 85% Merlot 10% Cabernet Sauvignon 5% Cabernet Franc Owned by the powerful Riviere family, which also owns a St Emillion Based negociant firm, this estate produced a generous ripe wine in this classic vintage. The large amount of Merlot gives a jammy rich character that will soften and broaden as the wine matures. A firm structure within the fruit will allow the wine to develop nicely. While approachable now, it will improve over the next 15 years. 91 points Wine Enthusiast.
