Selections of the Month of March

VALUE WINE –ROBERT MONDAVI PRIVATE SELECTION PINOT NOIR 2016

California, 1005 Pinot Noir

Medium ruby in color, with medium body and soft supple tannins. Aromas of ripe red cherries and violets with hints of Asian spices followed by flavors of sweet cherries and strawberries. The wine is very versatile and pairs with a wide variety of foods from roasted meats to poultry, cheese and seafood. Very good value at 10 dollars per bottle.

ECO WINE –  BONTERRA EQUINOX RED 2016

Mendocino, California

Merlot and Petit Syrah based blend with a nose of red fruits and flowers. The palate is full bodied and mouth filling with flavors of red and dark fruits with undertones of spice, herbs and toasty oak. Goes great with barbecue and grilled meats. Bonterra was Wine Enthusiast’s Winery of the Year in 2016.

WHITE WINE – SERRA DA ESTRELLA ALBARINO 2017

Rias Biaxis, Spain 100% Albarino

On the nose there are hints of apricot, pear and ripe exotic fruits complimented by a lemon-lime vibrancy all perfectly blended with the obvious floral notes. On the palate there are stone fruits, minerals and a refreshing acidity. Great with chicken, seafood and sushi.

RED WINE –RHONE PASSION COTES DU RHONE ROUGE 2015

Southern Cotes Du Rhone, France 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 5% Carignan

. A nose full of red fruit and herbs, and a medium to full body that is packed with red and dark fruits, spice and earth. Soft but supportive tannins and a good balance between fruit and acidity. This is a mouthful! Aged in tank for 8 months, sees no oak.;

NEW WORLD WINE  –CHRONIC CELLARS SOFA KING BUENO 2016

Paso Robles, California 44% Syrah, 31% Grenache, 13% Petite Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 2% Tannat

Very approachable with lively flavors of blackberries, cherries and strawberries. Additional notes of milk chocolate, caramel and leather mingle in giving a remarkably complex yet balanced wine. It finishes quite dry, despite the highly extracted fruit. Delicious with barbecue and grilled red meats, tomato based pastas…and even chocolate lava cake.

OLD WORLD WINE –G.D. VAJRA LANGHE MEBBIOLO 2016

Piedmont, Italy 100% Nebbiolo

There’s loads of red fruit up front (cranberry, plum) leading to classic herbs, tar and roses profile. Tannins are persistent but tame by Nebbiolo standards. Medium body and crisp acidity make this a wonderfully food friendly wine.
