VALUE WINE – THE ORIGINALS PINOT NOIR 2013
100% Pinot Noir, Walla Walla Washington
Using grapes sourced from California Washington winemaker Charles Smith fashions easy drinking value wines. The Pinot Noir is a dusty garnet color. There are aromas of baked cherry, orange chocolate and floral honey. There is a satiny , bright dry-yet-fruity medium body with flavor of berry custard, praline, craisin leading to a finish with light oak and cedar. A very easy drinking Pinot Noir, goes great with Salmon and chicken but delicious on its own.
ECO WINE –FREY BIODYNAMIC SYRAH 2012
Mendocino, Californa 100% Syrah
Full of fruit and juicy flavor this wine id Demeter certified biodynamic and made with no sulfites. It is about as pure an expression of Syrah as you can find. Beautifully layered and silky textured, this is the first estate Syrah produced by Frey. Refined tannins are balanced with flavors of black plum and bramble berries with a hint of fig, anise and bay leaf. Aged in stainless steel with some stave exposure. This wine pairs well with grilled red meats, especially lean ones and also with cheeses and with chocolate desserts.
WHITE WINE –MONTMASSOT PICPOUL DE PINET 2015
Languedoc, France 100% Picpoul de Pinet
Picpoul de Pinet is a grape from a 3000 acre appellation overlooking the Mediterranean sea of the same name. The name translates to “lip stinger” because of its vibrant acidity and intense minerality. This particular version is produced by the local cooperative in the village of Florensac. It is sourced from 40 acres of their best vineyards which are predominantly clay and limestone. Fermentation is in stainless steel with the wine resting on the lees for about 4 months. There is no malolactic fermentation. The wine is bright and citrusy with a hint of a briny fresh-from-the-sea succulence. It is excellent and a perfect match for the world famous oysters farmed in the region.
RED WINE- THE GUIDE PINOT NOIR 2014
Dundee, Oregon 100% Pinot Noir
Sourced from several areas of Oregon, this a well balanced very typical Oregon Pinot Noir at price not typically seen from Oregon. Bright cherry and cola on the nose with flavors of red sour and sweet cherry. The is a slight earthiness and balancing acidity that complete the picture. This is a great match for salmon , pork and veal dishes.
NEW WORLD WINE –STELLEKAYA HERCULES 2011
Stellenbosch, South Africa 100% Sangiovese
Usually this wine is blended with a small amount of Cabernet but the 2011 is pure Sangiovese. The wine is inspired by the constellation Hercules. Hercules became known as ‘the hero” after completing the “twelve labor”. Winemaker Ntsiki Byela labored a great deal over this wine. The grapes are hand harvested, pressed in a basket press and the wine is matured for 12 months in oak barriques. The wine is medium bodied with aromas and flavors of plums and dry red fruits and a hint of cherry tomatoes. It is well balanced with the typical South African earthiness and a generous acidity. Pairs well with mushroom risotto or light meats with parmesan and truffle oil.
OLD WORLD WINE – LA RIOJA ALTA ALBERDI RESERVA 2010
Rioja, Spain 100% Tempranillo
Hand picked from 40 plus year old vines, the wine is aged 1 year in new oak barrels (manufactured in house) and one year in 3 year old barrels. The wine is deep cherry red in color with a pink rim. There is an expansive nose with dominating ripe red fruit, currants and licorice rounded off by sweet notes of vanilla, caramel and spice. Particularly well balanced with a smooth elegant entry, medium body and sweet supple tannins. Ripe fruits, herbs, vanilla and caramel come together on the finish. Pairs well with grilled meats and pasta.
