VALUE WINE –LES ARGELIERES PINOT NOIR 2016

Languedoc, France 100% Pinot Noir

This Pinot Noir from the Languedoc is a bit bigger and heavier than the much more expensive traditional Burgundies but make no mistake – this is not a jammy fruit bomb either. The wine shows raspberry cherry on the nose with subtle smoky and peppery tones. It is medium in body with plenty of lively raspberry fruit with slight birch beer and wet earth notes. There is a long, lingering finish.

ECO WINE –  CANDONI MERLOT 2016

Veneto, Italy 100% Merlot

The Candoni family has been making wine for 150 years in the Veneto region of Northeastern Italy. They are certified organic producers. Their Merlot is deep ruby in color. It shows aromas of spicy berry chutney. On the palate there are silky flavors of blackberry, cherry and black currant. It is a medium to full bodied wine with smooth gentle tannins and an underlying acidity that makes it lively and zesty despite it being round and lush. Very food friendly, great with braised meats and roasts and stews.

WHITE WINE –SILENI ESTATES PINOT GRIS 2016

Hawkes Bay, New Zealand 96% Pinot Gris, 2% Gewurztraminer, 2% Sauvignon Blanc

Hawkes Bay, New Zealand 96% Pinot Gris 2% Gewurztraminer, 2% Sauvignon Blanc This is one of the ten largest estates in New Zealand and is the only family owned estate in the top ten. This beautiful Pinot Gris shows ripe juicy stone fruit, pear and citrus flavors with a hint of spice, a perfectly balanced acidity and a long finish. It is just off dry but lively and refreshing. There is creaminess to the mouth feel due to prolonged lees exposure after fermentation. Although mostly fermented in stainless steel, a small portion is barrel fermented for added complexity and roundness. Delicious with fish, chicken and seafood but is great on its own as a summer porch pounder.

RED WINE –ANTALE TERRE SICILIANE 2013

Sicily, Italy

This wine is produced by Natale Verga, a winery that produces an enormous array of wines from all over Italy that show remarkable value. This wine is no exception. A blend of a grape indigenous to Sicily and a French varietal, this wine is easy to drink yet interesting and complex, There are aromas of red fruits and spices followed by pronounced flavors of dark cherries, earth, and vanilla. There is an underlying acidity that makes the wine lively with just enough tannin to add some structure. Delicious with grilled meats and strong cheeses.< p>

NEW WORLD WINE  –ANDREW RICH PINOT NOIR

Willamette Valley, Oregon 100% Pinot Noir

After 20 vintages in Oregon under his belt, Andrew Will is one of the true veterans in a relatively new wine region of Willamette Valley. Upon arriving in the area, he had visions of producing Rhone-style wines but instead became enamored with Pinot Noir. This Pinot has aromas and flavors of blood orange, cranberry, and dried flowers. Light to medium bodied with cranberry and red cherry dominating the mid-palate. Vibrant and pure with a brilliant minerally acidity. Although not a big wine and fairly fruit forward, it should age gracefully for the next 5 to ten years. Goes wonderfully with baked salmon with dill butter sauce or mushroom risotto.

OLD WORLD WINE –CHATEAU PUECH HAUT "LE PRESTIGE"

Languedoc, France 55% Grenache, 45% Syrah

Peuch – Haut is easily one of the top estates in the Languedoc, if not all of southern France. Its entry level cuvees are among the best values in the Languedoc and the top cuvees are among the world’s best wines. This wine is sourced from 60 -75 year old vines and is aged completely in concrete. The wine exhibits earthy notes along with aromas of raspberry, cherry licorice, dried herbs and plum. These same notes follow through on the palate. Dense and concentrated with complexities in every sip. It’s a supple, elegant yet fruity wine with great flavor impact. Wonderful with grilled red meats and sausages. 93 points from Robert Parker’s Wne Advocate.
