90 points, Josh Reynolds, Vinous Media
Vivid ruby. Mineral-tinged red berry and cherry aromas show very good clarity and an emerging floral element. Taut, focused and concentrated on the palate, offering bitter cherry and raspberry flavors and a hint of licorice. Finishes smooth and long, with supple tannins, building sweetness and a suave touch of mocha. Learn More

  2. Bodegas Atteca Garnacha

    Bodegas Atteca Garnacha

    89 Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate
"The 2012 Atteca falls in the official category of "old vines" as defined by the Calatayud appellation, produced with Garnacha vineyards over 35 years of age with yields of no more than 4,500 kilos of grapes per hectare. Despite the ten months the wine aged in barrel, the oak is at the forefront with plenty of smoky, toasty and spicy notes overlaying the ripe black fruit underneath. The palate is full-bodied, with plenty of tannins and some dryness towards the end. It still needs time to digest the oak. Very good value. 72,000 bottles produced."

Winemaker's Notes: "The Bodegas Ateca Atteca 2012 possesses deep cherry color with intense aromas of red ripe fruit which combine perfectly with the spicy notes of cacao, vanilla and licorice corresponding to a noble aging. It is very fresh and fruity in the mouthy. It has a notable ending where fruity and spicy aromas come back via retro nasal. It is a magnificent expression of an elegant Garnacha from Aragon." 86 Points - Wine Spectator: "This dry rosé shows a firm texture and a savory character, with anise and herbal notes framing the cherry and mineral flavors. A bit austere, but can match with food. Drink now through 2014. 1,000 cases made." -TM Learn More

  5. Capcanes Mas Donis Tarragona Barrica

    Capcanes Mas Donis

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate! "Another baby Priorato, the 2012 Mas Donis, a custom cuvee from Eric Solomon, is composed of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah aged nine months in both new and used French and American oak. The Grenache comes from 70-year-old vines, and the Syrah from 30-year-old vines. It is difficult to find a better value than this incredibly rich effort. The bouquet offers up a smorgasbord of aromas, including crushed rocks, spring flowers, kirsch liqueur and blacker fruits. Full-bodied with a velvety, voluptuous texture, and admirable opulence, density, purity and texture, it is nearly impossible to believe that something this good could be priced at $12 a bottle. Consume it over the next year." Robert Parker #1113 Nov 2013 Learn More

A gripping, lithe midweight, with appealing sweetness and bracing minerality on the long, incisive finish. In an elegant style, with zero excess fat."

  8. Garnacha De Fuego

    Garnacha De Fuego

An expressive bouquet offers black raspberry, flowers and spicecake . Juicey, incisive red and dark berry flavors are lifted by tangy acidity. "Bright purple. Dark berries, cherry and a touch of smokiness on the nose and in the mouth. Spicy and juicy, showing good focus and back-end cut. The red fruit and smoke qualities carry through a sweet, gently tannic finish that shows surprising power for the vintage. Offers excellent bang for the buck." 89 points, Stephen Tanzer Learn More

  9. Herencia Altes Garnatxa Negra

    Herencia Altes Garnatxa Negra

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate! "Herencia Altes old vines were once dispatched to the local cooperative but no longer. The unoaked 2010 Garnatxa Negra (100%) was given some lees contact to enhance the richness and texture. Smoke, spice box, incense, mineral, and pure black cherry aromas are striking. Mouth-filling and elegant with enough structure to keep the wine for several years, this superb value finishes with no hard edges." -JM (May 2011) Herencia Altès is a project a long time in the making. For generations my family has been grape growers, with vineyards dispersed around the village of Batea. Now, I have decided to give these grapes their own personality in the form of these hand-crafted wines. While Terra Alta is not yet a well-known region - tucked away in the southeastern corner of Catalonia it borders Aragón and Valencia - it is one of the largest areas in Catalonia under vine. With plenty of old Garnatxa bush vines, I think it is amongst the best regions in terms of quality and authenticity. My home village is Batea. Built upon Roman and Moorish foundations it preserves a beautiful historical centre and its grand church is testament to its past glories. In terms of viticulture, it is the most important village in Terra Alta accounting for over 50% of its entire grape production. Most of the grapes are sold to cooperatives or large companies outside the region. Herencia Altes is my dream to put Terra Alta on the map and show the true quality of these wonderful old vines. - Nuria Altés The Garnatxa Blanca variety was first introduced to Batea by monks in the 15th century. The Garnatxa Blanca vineyard in Benufet was planted in 1915 and we believe it is one of the oldest producing vines in the world for this variety. Bright crimson in color, this wine is very expressive with notes of red fruits and minerals that leap from the glass. Plenty of fruit on the palate, a touch of complexity and sweet tannins. Pairs well with grilled meats, cabrito, and lamb. Learn More

It is a forward, savory, ripe, succulent offering that should prove to be a crowd-pleaser. It is an outstanding value that will deliver enjoyment over the next 5 years." -JM (Jun 2011) Rocas Garnacha is unoaked, produced from vines aged 70 to 100 years. Ample aromas of kirsch and raspberries; a broad flavored wine, supple with no hard edges.- Robert parker Jr. Learn More
