  1. Elena Fucci Aglianico del Vulture Titolo

Elena Fucci Aglianico del Vulture Titolo

94 points Monica Larner, Wine Advocate:
"From a consistent vintage, the 2010 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo opens to a garnet color that is shade lighter and more ruby-toned compared to the other wines in this vertical tasting. This is an austere and sophisticated expression of Aglianico with developed muscle, power and brawn. Its character is streamlined, vertical and direct. The bouquet exhibits impressive depth with sharp tones of small berry, forest floor, grilled herb, dried mint and volcanic ash or smoke. Titolo shows the deft hand of Elena Fucci. Her family once sold fruit to local estates but this courageous young lady launched her Titolo brand in 2000 with the help of her father and her grandfather who farmed these old vines his entire life." 2. Kendall-Jackson Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

    Kendall-Jackson Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate! "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Reserve explodes from the glass with black fruit, grilled herbs, licorice, smoke and tar. The Grand Reserve reveals tons of energy and exceptional overall balance. In 2009 the blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, all from the Alexander Mountain Estate Vineyard. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016." -AG (Feb 2012) Well-defined currants, blackberry, blueberry and cassis make for abundant fruit on the attack. Sturdy, complex tannins balance the acidity throughout. Notes of smoke, mocha, cedar and lots of rich oak round off the long, earthy, heady finish. Learn More

  4. La Crema Sonoma Chardonnay

    La Crema Sonoma Chardonnay

92 points Robert Parker Jr., Wine Advocate
"The 2012 Chardonnay Russian River spends time in 29% new oak. It exhibits notes of orange marmalade, white peaches and pineapple, medium to full body, heady glycerin and a long, pure, well-balanced finish. It should drink well for 3-4 years. "
The Sonoma Coast Chardonnay opens with an intriguing interplay of lively citrus and subtle toasted oak, laced with just a kiss of butterscotch. The palate is round and nutty, with flavors of yellow apple and orange adding lushness, while well-balanced acidity creates a lovely vibrancy. ( Learn More

    Las Rocas Garnacha

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate! "The 2009 Las Rocas is 100% Garnacha sourced from 80-year-old vines from the DO of Calatayud with 25% of the wine aged in wood. It is a forward, savory, ripe, succulent offering that should prove to be a crowd-pleaser. It is an outstanding value that will deliver enjoyment over the next 5 years." -JM (Jun 2011) Rocas Garnacha is unoaked, produced from vines aged 70 to 100 years. Ample aromas of kirsch and raspberries; a broad flavored wine, supple with no hard edges.- Robert parker Jr. Learn More

  6. Marques de Murrieta Rioja Reserva

    Marques de Murrieta Rioja Reserva

91 points Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate:
"The 2008 Reserva is a blend of 86% Tempranillo, 8% Garnacha Tinta, 4% Mazuelo and 2% Graciano from their own vineyards, which were hand-harvested between October 2 and 27. The grapes, which are selected from different plots to display the character of Ygay, fermented in inox vats and the wine aged for eighteen months in American oak barrels, eight of them in new barrels and the rest in used ones. It also matured in bottle for two years before being put on the market. An impressive 1.5 million bottles were produced. It has strong balsamic notes of incense, smoked meat, leather, fennel and cherries, which make it feel very Rioja. The palate is medium-bodied, balanced, with great acidity and freshness. A serious vintage of Murrieta Reserva that represents great balance between tradition and modernity. Drink 2014-2028. " Learn More

  7. Mas de Boislauzon Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Cuvee du Quet

Mas de Boislauzon Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Cuvee du Quet

94-96+ points, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate
"Even more impressive and a candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet (pronounced kay) is a blend of 80% tank-aged Grenache and 20% barrel-aged Mourvedre. A big, massive wine, with decadent roasted herbs, black and red fruits, licorice and scorched earth, this full-bodied, mouth-filling and brilliantly concentrated effort doesn't lack for texture or richness, yet remains fresh and very drinkable. It should drink well for 15-20 years. Drink 2014-2032." Learn More

  8. Prudhon Saint Aubin Blanc 1er Cru "Les Perrieres" 2012

Prudhon Saint Aubin Blanc 1er Cru "Les Perrieres" 2012

    90 points Burghound
" Here there are notes of mineral reduction that will almost certainly eventually recede to allow what appears to be citrus and floral aromas to share the spotlight. As is usually the case the mouth feel is finer with a more pronounced minerality on the medium weight flavors that possess good verve and fine delineation on the slightly saline and beautifully well-balanced finale. This should drink well after only a few years of bottle age yet be capable of rewarding 5 to 6 years of cellaring." Learn More

  9. Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select Cabernet

    Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select Cabernet

98-100 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
"The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is not in bottle, but it looks like another three-digit wine in the making. It tips the scales at a lofty 15.3% natural alcohol, but tasters will never feel any heat tasting it. This is a beauty, with crème de cassis notes intermixed with spring flowers, a touch of toasty oak, blackberries, blueberries and cassis, as well as licorice, vanillin and a full-bodied mouthfeel. At this stage, it is more voluptuous and opulent than the 2010, simply because that's the hallmark style of the 2012. No doubt this is a 30- to 50-year wine if you want to cellar it properly and nibble on it over a long period of time, but it will be much more approachable in its youth than most Hillside Selects tend to be. This is, once again, a fabulous effort. Shafer's Hillside Estate Vineyard consists of 54 acres all on steep, amphitheater-like, rocky outcroppings and knolls. It receives the full benefit of southeasterly sunlight, and enjoys the afternoon breezes that blow up from the San Francisco Bay channel. An unusual geographic feature, this vineyard is basically a box canyon. The top soil is virtually non-existent as the bed roots that go into the white tofu volcanic soil base rarely extend more than 18 inches before hitting bedrock. This no doubt is a significant reason for the intense flavors achieved by the Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon, and why it is able to spend 32 months in 100% new French oak without a woody taste. 10. Vietti Castiglione Barolo

    Vietti Castiglione Barolo

94 points Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
"The 2010 Barolo Castiglione is absolutely lovely upon first impact. It starts off dense, with notes of tar, dried cherry, and plum then adds layers of bright florals and spicy notes. Mineral shadings and smoked meat also appear as distant highlights. The 2010 vintage in particular coats the palate with a firm but subtle grip. The wine already shows great complexity. Drink: 2016-2026"

94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
"The 2010 Barolo Castiglione is beautiful in the way it brings together the vibrancy of the year with a soft, inviting textural presence. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet spices, anise and red berries are all woven together nicely in the glass. With time in the glass, the wine blossoms with exquisite finesse, floral aromatics and exquisite overall balance. Ripe, silky tannins support the exquisite finish. An insanely beautiful wine, the 2010 will give readers a good idea of just how great the 2010 vintage is at Vietti. The Barolo Castiglione is made from a large number of parcels across the Barolo zone, many of which are of a high enough level of quality that they could be bottled separately. This is first-class juice." Learn More
